Monthly Message from the Editor

Well, it is the time of the year when kids are out of school, parents are pulling their hair out, and for those of us working from home, we are doing the balancing act to maintain our business, and enjoy the time off with the kids, as well as take that much needed vacation. Speaking of vacation, I am heading out today on my annual vacation that includes only my sister and myself (yes, that means no kids or husbands!).  We are headed to Vegas for 9 days, going to a Cher concert, spending some time on Fremont Street, as well as the strip, and my favorite, taking daily naps!  I hope you get some time this summer to take some time out and re-energize.

Speaking of taking a time out and re-energizing, this month Dolly digs into how even the Supermom needs to take a time out every now and then, and give some great ideas on how you REALLY can do it (trust me, I'm the Supermom type, and her suggestions really do work!  Rolling off her Feature Article for the month, I give some tips on how you can take a time out and regroup in your business so that you can earn MORE moolah, with less stress! Jerome shares a great blog post on a new technology that will allow you to sit over someone's shoulder and see everything they are doing, without actually being there.  You HAVE to check out this one - it is amazing!

Before I let you go dig into the newsletter, I encourage you to check out our upcoming complimentary teleseminars and training programs. We have some amazing new things we have added, and just about everyone will benefit from one of our upcoming events.  Dolly and I took off most of May and June from our regular crazy lives to put together a solid foundation for new programs, new teleseminars, and just a ton of new ideas to make sure that each of you can not only participate, but as is always our main focus, be able to afford!  I am just so excited to finally be rolling out what we have been working so hard on.

As always, please feel free to send me your story ideas, questions and comments at editor@professionaladminteam.com. I’d love to know how things are going for you. Don't forget - you can sign up for a complimentary, 45-minute consultation at any time at http://www.professionaladminteam.com/consult.html.

To your business success!

Coaches Corner – TIME OUT!

I’ve never been a real sports fan until I had children. All of our children have participated in sports. Our oldest played softball, the middle child played basketball and our youngest has played baseball, basketball and soccer.

Each of the children have learned many lessons, such as sportsmanship, team building, and the importance of listening, as well as many other life skills. As I’ve attended their games and learned the rules of each sport, one thing has really stuck out for me, TIME OUT.

As moms we are used to using time outs with our children. Little Johnny hits his sister, so we send him to time out. Mary has a melt down while doing homework, so mom suggests a time out to help her calm down, and darling little Susie ‘paints’ dad’s NEW truck with mom’s lipstick, so mom hurriedly sends her to time out.

During the games, I’ve noticed that time outs aren’t a negative thing; to the contrary, it’s a positive experience. The same children who just minutes before were scattered are now focused, more attentive to what is going on around them and play better. Those couple of minutes off the field has made a huge difference in their performance.

Moms can take a lesson from these time outs. We rush around trying to be Supermom as we make sure our families, our homes, our businesses, and such have their needs are met. We spend countless hours nurturing and caring for our husbands and children. We make sure our children are fed, bathed, diapered; and then there is cuddle time, story time, play time and such. We clean, we cook, and we shop. We are nurses, referees, chauffeurs, friends, daughters, and sisters. Some of us may also have a second ‘job’ as a business owner and/or employee and spend 40 plus hours dealing with clients and projects, writing articles, marketing, bookkeeping, phone calls, correspondence and much, much more. Then at the end of the day as we fall into bed, we are expected to be romantic and ‘in the mood’.

Time Out is a definite MUST for women - not only when our last nerve is tested, but everyday. You may be thinking your life is too busy and your schedule too full, but there are ways to make time for yourself. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Take a book or a MP3 with you favorite music with you while you wait in the doctor’s office.

  • Pay bills online and, instead of running around town, use the extra time relaxing with a cup of coffee, ice tea or your favorite beverage.

  • Ask your family to give you a certificate for a manicure, pedicure or other spa treatments for your birthday, anniversary, Mother’s day and Christmas; then exchange babysitting with a friend or someone you trust.

  • Take a nap while baby sleeps.

  • Have dad watch the children while you take a nice long bath, (with instructions not to disturb you unless the house is on fire or someone’s dying). *wink*

  • Utilize children’s event in your community; for example, while the children enjoy story time at the library, grab a magazine, write in your journal, or just relax and people watch.

  • Spend a few minutes before you jump out of bed each morning recounting all of your blessings and a few minutes before you fall asleep at night to recall the things you were able to accomplish that day.

  • When cooking, make two casseroles and freeze one for another day, cook large batches of ground beef; freeze into individual portions to be used at a later time, make crock-pot meals, etc. Less time in the kitchen means more time for you.

  • If possible, run errands once a week and group them so all the ones on the north side of town are together and so on.

Time Outs are not only possible, but also a necessary part of our daily routines.

Marketing Article – Do you need a Time Out in YOUR Business?

As Dolly talked about in her article, Time Out!, it is important to remember that we can't do it all.  But what about in our business?  Can you do it all, or do you need to take a Time Out?  If you are overwhelmed, stressed out, and work nonstop and still never get everything done, then you are in need of a TIME OUT!  Sit down and sift through all the tasks you have to complete in your business.  What are things that you can hand-off to an expert (who would more than likely finish it in half the time)?  What are things you could automate to make it faster (could you buy new bookkeeping software and download your transactions vs. doing it by hand)?

Worried about the cost of unloading some of the items off of your plate by getting a Virtual Assistant, fellow colleague, or new software (or whatever else is needed)?  Sit down and take the time to analyze how much your time is worth.  When you are doing the work that actually brings IN income, what is your hourly worth?  $50, $100, $200 per hour...  Now figure out how much time you are spending doing tasks that DON'T bring in income, but just maintains your business.  If on average you are spending 15 hours per week on tasks that are not revenue generating and you make a $100/hr, then you are wasting $1500 a week!!!!  I don't know about you, but if I could get rid of those tasks that drive me INSANE, and bring in an extra $1500 (which would more than cover the costs of your needed solutions), I would loosen the purse strings, and go for it!  (Which BTW, I do!)

While I can't recommend software that will work for your particular solutions (we'd be here all day, and this is just supposed to be a tip!), I can recommend a great resource for finding a Virtual Assistant to meet your needs.  These are highly trained Virtual Assistants, with a wide range of skills and abilities, many taking specialized training programs to continue to offer their clients the top of their service.  Once you determine what you would like to unload, visit www.everywomansnorthstar.com/team.html and search for the VA(s) that best fit your needs.  Stuck, or not sure who could fit your needs?  I have worked with all of these VAs and would be more than happy to do a complimentary consultation with you to determine your needs, and then recommend a few VAs that would fit with your needed skills, as well as personality.  Just sign up on my calendar at http://tungle.me/PattyBenton (Please do not pick a same day appt. Thx!) for a 45 minute block of time.
